How It Started...

Feeling disconnected from the Ethiopian/Eritrean Orthodox Tewahedo Church due to language barriers, a group of young adults came together in search of a solution. They did not want these barriers to create distance between them and their faith, the teachings of the EOTC, or their relationship with God. Thus, in 2014, Young Orthodox Tewahedo Christians (YOTC) was born with the mission of learning and teaching the EOTC dogma, canon, and traditions in English.

For years, YOTC provided services in English to help English-speaking Orthodox Tewahedo Christians grow spiritually and stay connected to the Church. By the Grace of God and the blessed guidance of His Grace Abune Fanuel, the Archbishop of Washington, D.C., and its surrounding areas, this mission grew into something greater. In July 2023, these efforts led to the planting of Sewasiwe Birhan - Saint Paul Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church (SPOT), the first Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church dedicated to serving the English-speaking community.

Who We Are Today

With the support and approval of our bishop, Abune Fanuel, we have embarked on this exciting journey. SPOT is an English mission church dedicated to cultivating the spiritual journey of English-speaking Orthodox Tewahedo believers. We offer Divine Liturgy, Spiritual Hymns, and Sermons in English to ensure that all who seek Christ through the Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo faith can do so without language being a barrier.

We strive to foster a community where people experience transformation in Jesus Christ through the Apostolic teachings of the Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo faith in English.
